The prefecture has a population of 1.4 million people and covers an area of 9,637 square kilometers. Aomori is known for its natural beauty, including the Shirakami-Sanchi mountain range, the Hakkoda Mountains, and the Tsugaru-Hanto Peninsula. It is also home to the Aomori Nebuta Festival, one of the largest and most famous festivals in Japan. The prefecture is also known for its production of apples, which are used to make the famous Aomori applesauce. Aomori is also home to the world-famous Nebuta Matsuri, a summer festival that features giant illuminated floats.
