We visit the Ybycui National Park and on its premises the museum “La Rosada” of the Ybycuí iron factory. The Museum holds a collection of objects that were part of the iron factory that Pte. Carlos Antonio López was promoting. This foundation was asked to drive the modernization of the country and to apply iron technology to construction, navigation, agriculture and industry. Since 1863, the impending beginning of the war against the “Triple Alianza”, the production of war goods has been prioritized. It worked until 1869, when it was deactivated and then destroyed by the enemy army.

This church was build by the Guaraní Indians and shows the talent of these people through art and crafts. After passing Paraguarí and Piribebuy, you will arrive at Caacupe, one of the most important pilgrimage places in South America. From there, it is a short drive to get to San Bernadino, which was founded in 1881 by the sister of Friedrich Nietzsche, a well known writer. After visiting the village we'll drive to Aregua, one of the capitals of ceramic art and crafts. Our last stop will be Luque were you might find some jewelry in silver. In the late afternoon we'll drive back to Asunción where you will be brought back to your hotel.

The Great Chaco offers impressive wildlife, with good chance of seeing some of South America’s charismatic big mammals like jaguars, pumas and tapirs. Lowland Tapir, Puma, Giant Anteater and Chacoan Peccary are amongst the mammals we may encounter: the last of these was presumed extinct when it was described from fossils in 1930. It came as a surprise when it was rediscovered in 1972, to become the (then) third and largest peccary species known! Today, the Paraguayan Chaco holds the main population of this species.
